Where shall the con be in 2016?

Come on to Kansas City. Or continuing to stick with your mid size city Omaha, Nebraska.

Norfolk, Va PLEASE it's been 13 years!

I have been to 5 Joe Cons and live in San Diego California. I don't want the con in California but if would be nice if it was closer to the West Coast. The furthest west I have gone to a con is Dallas. How about Denver or Las Vegas. Vegas would be nice because flying there and hotels are cheap, lots to do for single people and people with family's. Vegas is not like it was 10-15 years ago it is much more family friendly.

I vote for Columbus Ohio or even Springfield Ohio.

I second this vote! I used to go to Columbus a lot for work. Nice area.

My other suggestion would be Minneapolis, MN. There is a ton to do there and it's been 10 years since the last one.

That may be a fun way to determine the next con. Do a bracket challenge using characters hometowns from potential cities and let the club members vote. I don't know if the club cam confirm or not but I thought I saw somewhere that the highest concentration of club members is in or around Chicago.

Maybe that's where all the Joliet love is coming from. And I love the Carrie Fisher w/ RPG idea. That's awesome! !!

I second that!!! Or Chattanooga! I live 40 minutes from Chattanooga! There's a huge convention center downtown! Plus we have the usual stuff for touristy type things the club does-Chattanooga Choo Choo, the Aquarium, Discovery museum for the kids, theaters, there's a good Civil War Dinner theater about 40 minutes from downtown (I'm partial, I'm in it!) www.civilwardinnertheater.com And, there's a huge river, Rock City, Raccoon Mountain caves (better cave formations than Rock City), and lots more! Take the con to Chattanooga! I haven't been able to go to a con since it was in Atlanta back in 07!!!

Just about every person posting is wanting the con to be in their town! LOL! Anyplace but Indy for me, but since I use it as a vacation, I would like a nice get-away location. :)

rjbarnhart@zoominternet.net
06-24-2015, 01:13 PM
This thread seems to start every year with many of the same arguments, lots of which are very good and make perfect sense. But the Club is going to do what it wants to do. It would be nice if the Club would just announce the location of the next JoeCon at the end of JoeCon each year. We'll probably learn about the location in about 6 months.

I vote Philadelphia as well. But New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland or Virginia are all good too. The northeast is more densely populated than anywhere else in the country, so naturally this should increase attendance among guests and dealers. These spots are all within an easy distance from New York as well.

I think you nailed it from the beginning. KC's centrally located. Plenty to do for the families. A good sized area for everyone to enjoy themselves and get around the city if needed. And some Killer Blues bars for the adults. (Triple bonus!!!)

I would love a California Joecon. San Diego could be a good location. It is a huge military town with several large Naval bases and Marine bases. It is also where Top Gun was filmed. Los Angeles area could work, but the Bay Area would probably be too expensive. Having joecon out west would actually allow many west coast collectors to go for once and that would be awesome.

This may be explained somewhere else, but I have some questions regarding how Joe Con works and what to expect being a new member. I know some of you have been here for years and I am just looking for advice from the fans perspective. I basically need a tutorial on what to expect. I appreciate any advice you may offer.

1. When do they usually announce when and where the convention is located?
2. How does the convention work as far as things to do and what to expect?
3. What is a golden ticket? How do you get it? I see it brought up a lot, and it seems that is the only way get what you want without paying a ton on Ebay. It also seems to be the root of frustration for some.
4. When does FSS usually ship? Do the figures arrive well packed? I've ordered the Wave Crusher, Old Snake, and Marissa Faireborn sets and some left a lot to be desired. (Bent, creased and cut packaging). The Zombie set arrived fine.
5. Does the club have random releases for Club exclusives (do they even offer very many?), or is it an annual release around the convention?

I'm not asking these questions to start a bashing on anything. I am just trying to get caught up with how things usually work. Thanks again and I look forward to any answers you may have.

I know some of you have been here for years and I am just looking for advice from the fans perspective. I basically need a tutorial on what to expect. I appreciate any advice you may offer.

1. When do they usually announce when and where the convention is located?

Depends on when the Convention is but we might get an announcement in the next few months

2. How does the convention work as far as things to do and what to expect?

Best bet is to go to the Convention area and read old brochures.

3. What is a golden ticket? How do you get it? I see it brought up a lot, and it seems that is the only way get what you want without paying a ton on Ebay. It also seems to be the root of frustration for some.

In a way it is a frustration since it sells out quickly. Basically you pay an extra $300 or so and you get to check in earlier, buy the exclusives first and 3 times as many as a normal package holder, and there are some things you can only gain access to with a golden ticker

4. When does FSS usually ship? Do the figures arrive well packed? I've ordered the Wave Crusher, Old Snake, and Marissa Faireborn sets and some left a lot to be desired. (Bent, creased and cut packaging). The Zombie set arrived fine.

IF everything goes well (last time around it didn't) The first shipment is usually by late October Early November. Prior to the first FSS wave they designed a special packaging box which works well but some people have had problems with the bubbles coming loose (I haven't)

5. Does the club have random releases for Club exclusives (do they even offer very many?), or is it an annual release around the convention?

IT varies by year. Some years they only have Convention material and these days the FSS. But in the past they've had nice stuff like 1:18 Adventure team Figures, Operation Flaming MOTH, even the occasional lost wae of Direct to Consumer Figures. and Guaranteed each year you get a Free Figure that is either 3 3/4" or 12". Heck Iceberg was my main reason for joining in the first place

I'm not asking these questions to start a bashing on anything. I am just trying to get caught up with how things usually work. Thanks again and I look forward to any answers you may have.

I hope I answered your questions. Most of my info is in bold faced type and I tried to be non biased.

I'd like to see the convention come to Tulsa, Oklahoma. It's fairly accessible from anywhere and has a large convention center with a lot of parking. I wonder if any of the people who came up with the Adventure Team concept are still around and have ever been guests at these conventions? I'd love to hear the stories of how they came up with ideas for the flocked heads, and vehicles like the Troubleshooter, the Sea Wolf, The Mobile Support Vehicle, etc...

So much love had to have gone into the making of those wonderful toys. Over the years I've collected most of them, but boy did it cost me a fortune. I've got a whole room in my house with shelving units displaying this stuff. It's like a small museum.

Ummm, How about Staten Island- Fort Wadsworth in particular? You know where the Pit is located ;) Seems like a perfect opportunity to me. That said I have no dog in the fight as I am not a con goer (avoid crowds), but to me if you are going to a Town named after "Cobra's secret base" (Actually is in Vermont according to Hama's original Run and relocated to another Springfield after it was discovered) why not where the GI Joe secret base is?
