Now this one definitely needs no changes. That means zero, none, nada, zip, etc. In other words, don't fix it if it ain't broke!!

Absolutely love this reimagining. GREAT use of the Data Viper's parts. Can we see the figure's head without the helmet?

I may be wrong, it looks quite possible that it's Clean Sweep head under there.

Well, I said this would be a tough figure to make and I still say it. Personally it doesn't feel like Payload. I don't like the Data Viper pack but I don't think anything else could have been used except retooling the original back pack. The helmet looks really good. A solid effort though and maybe it'll grow on me after a couple of days.

I don’t really like the Data Viper gear either, but the figure underneath looks great and I do like the helmet choice. I will probably just take off the backpack and display him without it. After all, he is the Defiant pilot and he wouldn’t be wearing all that equipment when he is in the shuttle ****pit flying it.

I don't see why anyone is down on the Data Viper backpack and arm controls. It looks like a perfect self-propelled zero-G self-propulsion rig. Reminds me of this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YiMMfI0hcGw

It is the racks of missiles on the shoulder. Fire a rocket in space and good bye floating into oblivion...

I think the idea is the backpack rig has self-propulsion (hence the arm controls). In other words, Payload can compensate for any rockets he fires by counterbalancing it with the jets on his back.

Physics For every action their is an equal an opposite reaction...
Consider just firing a gun, which the rockets would have much, much more force...

Action; fire the gun, reaction; use mmu thruster to stop backwards motion and move up,down and the forward. Gee aint science fun. Come on we're talking about a toy not reality. If you don't like it that's your opinion, but don't say that its because its not realistic. Then again look who im talking to if it's not a figure you want seems you always have to belittle it.

I don’t care if they want to fire rockets in space, I personally just don’t like how it looks. It's more like something from Star Wars or Battlestar, and a little to futuristic for my vision of G.I. Joe. That’s just my opinion. Other people are digging it and I’m fine with the figure how it is. I’ll just remove the backpack and display him how he would look piloting the shuttle from the co... um... the little room at the front where the pilot sits.

Also, the two missile racks are totally removable from the rest of the rig, if that’s your only problem with it.

Can you tell us what head you used?

charles.phillips@penske.com

no beard, just a mustache, so it looks like Leoric, the Visionary we got in the SDCC set.

Payload looks great. Now all we need is a Defiant to go along with him. If one shows up at the convention, drop me a line.

dgmgundam@yahoo.com

So, is it the SDCC Leoric head or the Convention Clean Sweep head under the helmet?

iamcanadian@sasktel.net
04-26-2018, 05:44 PM
Judging by the longer sideburn I'd guess Leoric but I'm more certain that it's Footloose's head.

Club, can you show us the unhelmeted head?

I have to say that I am very impressed with Payload. True, it's not a vintage replica, but it reminds me of some of the great POC updates. Remember, Hasbro never released any spaced themed figures so the Skydive and Data-Viper sculpts are probably the only ones that would work. The design also kind of reminds me of Exo Sqaud (anyone else remember this?)

I would love to see this design used for a complete Star Brigade set (same sculpt with different weapons and colors) - I know, I know, no chance in **** now that the club is ending. Just saying it would have made a great con set.
